Workshop Descriptions -- Which one is right for you?
8 WEEK PRACTICAL PARENTING WORKSHOP
(Based on Julie Ross' book "Practical Parenting for the 21st Century: The Manual You Wish Had Come With Your Child")
Does your toddler have difficulty going to sleep at night? Bite when he's angry? Seem overly sensitive?
Does your child or teenager fight with his siblings? Fail to respect curfews? Treat you disrespectfully?
As a parent, are you angry with your child? Repeating requests over and over (with no results)?
Losing confidence in your ability to parent?
Would you like to have the best possible communication with your child?
Practical Parenting will help you establish tangible parenting skills so you can communicate with your child, no matter the situation. We teach SKILLS, not theory. You'll learn to be pro-active, instead of reactive, in times of conflict. You'll leave the course feeling confident in your ability to eliminate unacceptable behavior, and raise responsible, cooperative children with high self-esteems. Most importantly, you will be able to create and foster the type of parental relationship that lasts a lifetime: one based on respectful communication.
8 WEEK HOW TO HUG A PORCUPINE WOKSHOP for parents of tween and teens
(Based on Julie Ross' book "How to Hug a Porcupine: Negotiating the Prickly Points of the Tween Years")
Yesterday, your child was a sweet, well-adjusted eight year old. Today, a moody, disrespectful twelve-year-old. What happened? And, more important, how do you handle it? This workshop offers practical techniques that will allow you to hug even the prickliest porcupine:
Find out how other parents survived the nightmarish tween and teen years -- and still raised great kids.
Break the "nagging cycle," give your kids the right balance of responsibilities, and get results
Talk about sex, drugs, and alcohol so your kid will listen
Discover the techniques that will help your child disregard peer pressure and make smart choices -- for life.
This workshop will prove that it's possible to hug a porcupine, if you know how!
What people have to say:
"It is so good to come to this class and get some relief from nagging/negotiating. Thanks for the ideas and support."
- participant of Winter '09 Tween Series
"It's rare to find such a compassionate educator who sees to the heart of both sides of parent-teen conflicts."
- Parenting Horizons' client
